  • 1945 Aug.- Potsdam Conference - Truman - Stalin and British divide up Europe

    This was when the big three came together to negotiate terms after WWII and to split up Europe.

  • 1946 Jan. - First East European Communist government set up in Albania.

    This first communist government will start the fire of Euro communism.

  • 1947 Jan. - Communists seize power in Poland.

  • March - Truman Doctrine announced.

    This is when Truman said he would provide money and support to Euro countries to prevent the spread of communism.

  • 1948o June - Berlin Airlift begins (ends May 19, 1949)

    The US stands up to Russia and shows we won't give in to their threats.

  • 1949o April - North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) established. o Aug.- Soviet Union explodes its first atomic bomb. o Oct. - Communists win Chinese Civil War.

    This is when the US came together with other countries so we could have a backup and a secure friendship.

    This starts an arms race and provides an instigator for the US to create more atomic firepower adn put the Russians to shame.

    This shows communism's growth around the world and the growing threat of the domino theory.

  • 1950o June - U.S. and other U.N. members fight North Korean forces ( Ends July 27, 1953)

    This shows NATO's grit and determination to stop communism along with showing how NATO trusts each other.

    Another NATO type organization spawns.

    Russia and other Euro countries start supporting each other.

  • July - First Summit Meeting between President Dwight Eisenhower and PremierNikita Khrushchev.

    Eisenhower is making a move to talk with Russia.

    Russia shows its power and faith in communism. Whereas the US is making their way to fight communism, Russia is once again establishing their dominance. Russia did not put up at all with any thoughts of revolt and they swiftly used their army to kill many people and froce them to coropate. The US is now threatend by the USSR's power, but the US will not give in.

    The Bay of Pigs showed the US's want to eradicate communism to the point they made some rash decisions. The Bay of Pigs was one of these instances. The US jumped into this great scheme to take back Cuba from Fidel Castro with a Cuban exile army. But the US should have taken the hint when Castro moved his planes so they wouldn't be bombed. This desperation from the US to infiltrate and take back Cuba was caused by the rise of Castro and the threat he posed for the spread of communism.(History.com

    Russia shows more power.

    This is a threat to the US and NATO and the dominoe theory.

  • 1972o Feb. - President Richard Nixon visits China.

    US is trying to stop communist influence.

  • 1975o Apr. - South Vietnam falls to Communist forces.

    Dominoe Theory once again is proven true.

  • 1976o Feb.- Soviet and Cuban forces help install Communist government in Angola.

  • 1979o Jan.- U.S. and China establish diplomatic relations.

    US getting into more communist countries.

  • 1980o Aug.- Polish shipyard workers strike, Solidarity Union formed.

    More people stand up against the Soviets.

    This event showed the US's desperation to get rid of communism, yet this event the US learned from the past and succesfully invaded Grenada. Grenada became a threat because of the highly Marxist leader and the growing relations with Cuba. The US wanted to get rid of this government to stop communism spreading back to Cuba. The US goals payed off and Grenada was turned back around from communist views.

    US and Russia come to terms and start talking peacefully.
