    On March 29, 1951 while the U.S. and the Soviet Union were "hurting" in the Cold War, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were convcited of stealing ideas and plans for the U.S. atomic bombs (The Manhattan Project). The two gave the Soviets secrets as they were Soviet spies. Two years later in 1953 Julius and Ethel were executed leaving behind thier two sons. They left the nation confused and split on the crime and if the death sentence was the right sentencing.

    execution of the Rosenbergs was the right sentencing. The Rosenbergs were a major headline in the U.S. Since the Rosenbergs gave the Soviets ideas for the nuclear bombs, the Soviets were able to create their own nuclear power. This started the Red Scare. Everyone was scared of a potential nuclear attack. There was a ton of fear and suspicion going on all because of the Rosenbergs.

North Vietnam was becoming Communist and South Vietnam wanted away from that and to be more democratic.     The second one was when the U.S. replaced France and became the one fighting with the South against the North to stop communism. Also during this time the "domino effect" was happening where one country was taken over with communism and one after another fell to communism.

    On October 4, 1957 the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1. This was the first satellite into space. It was as big as a basketball, weighed 183 pounds, and took 98 minutes to orbit the Earth. The launch of Sputnik created new political, science, military, and technology developments. The launch caught the U.S. offguard and got the U.S. publics attention. People feared that the Soviets being able to launch satellites made the U.S. worry that they could possibly launch missiles/nuclear weapons on US

    People feared that the Soviets being able to launch satellites made the impression on the U.S. that they could possibly missiles/nuclear weapons from Europe to the U.S. The launch made the U.S. start to work on their own satellite (Explorer). The Explorer was a success and the U.S. continued to expand on their space program. The launch of Sputnik also led to the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

    On April 17, 1961 the United States attempted to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. The U.S. army landed at Bahia de Cochinos on the coast of Cuba to try to take over Castro. Castro was able to defeat the U.S. When Castro came to power and took over the U.S. oil refineries, the U.S. then stopped buying sugar from Cuba. Castro then talked over the U.S. business in Cuba. This then caused Kennedy to call for the Bay of Pigs invasion.

    The Berlin Wall was built during the Cold War while the Soviet Union and the U.S. battled. The Berlin Wall was a divider of East (communists) and West (democrats) Berlin. It seperated the two different types of governments and overall represented the different thinkings betweent the diferent types of governments, how they worked, and how people viewed them.

    He had a naval blockade of Cuba to stop the sites from being built. Khrushchev contacted the U.S. and said they will take the missiles off Cuba if the U.S. doesn't invade again. On October 28, the missiles were removed and the U.S. declared they woudn't invade again.

    Nikita Khrushchev placed missiles in Cuba to stop and slow down the U.S. creation and deploying of their own missiles. Nikita also did it because it protected Cuba from another invasion, like the fail attempt from the US. at Bay of Pigs. The Soviet Union started to build secret missile bases until President Kennedy was shown pictures. Kennedy then was televised and told the people of the missiles and that any attack will be treated accordingly.

    After the Soviets launched Sputnik, it opened up a new way to "fight'. It was a battle to see who could get more advanced technology to space. The Soviet's kept on embarrasing the U.S. with the Bay of Pigs invasion defeat, and having the first perosn in space, but on July, 16, 1969 the U.S. was able to send a man safely to the moon. Kennedy knew landing a man on the moon would be hard, but a defeat on the Soviet Union.

    The basketball game was the U.S. verses the Soviet Union. Not only was the Soviet Union the U.S. atheltic enemy, but politcal enemy at this time. Just like the Cold War it was a very controversial game. After restarting the clock many times the Soviets won with one second left and the Americans thought they had been cheated. U.S filed a formal protest and with a 3 to to 2 vote, America lost. America left without receiving their silver medals in sign of their protest.
