  • Potsdam Conference

    • The final wartime meeting of the leaders of the Allied "Big Three" nations and dealt chiefly with the future of Germany and the role of the Soviet Union in the war against Japan
    • Saltin demanded heavy reparations from Gemany for the vast damage suffered by the Soviet Union in the war.
    • The Allies also revealed agreement on the "three D's"
  • Beggining of Cold War

    • At the end of World War II, Germany had been divided into four occupation zones; with Greath Britain, the U.S, france, and the U.S.S.R. Each governing their own sector.
    • The division of Berlin and it's location withing the larger Soviet occupation zone carried potential for conflict democratizization, denaz, fication, and demilitarization.
  • Berlin Blockade/Air Lift

    • A massive transfer of essential supplies flown into Germany
    • Began when Jospeh Stalin restricted access to Burlin by closing water and railway transport and the highways leading to the city
    • Stalin agreed to lift the blockade if the Allies would end the counter blockade
  • Vietnam War

    After the Cold War there was a communist take over of Vietnam that lead to a civil war between the Democratic South and the Communist North. By 1995 the U.S. added its aid in the war in favor of the South against Viet Cong
  • Berlin Wall

    • A 13 ft concrete barrier that efficiently surrounded West Berlin from ground access to keep people from fleeing to it.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    • Climax of war between the USSR and the US
    • The crisis consisted of a standoff between President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Premier Nikita Krushclev over the Soviet plan to install nuclear missiles on the island nation of Cuba.
  • Glasnot/Perestroika

    • Reforms used to bring Soviet people more freedom, in effects when Boris Yeltsin became president, helped cause fall of Soviet Union and ended the coldwar
  • Fall of Communism/Soviet Union
