It was where the big three Britain, US, and USSA met in Yalta Ukraine, which was their first meeting to review the line of Europe. The effect it has on the cold war was the Yalta conference was a place that they made some agreements like the division of Germany into 4, free elections in liberated countries. A hopeful conference that they shared victory would be helpful. This is an example of Detente ease the tension b/n them. -
NATO
An organization that holds a lot of countries like Britain, the USA, France, and the Netherlands. This agreement makes the countries help each other out in case they were attacked by the Soviet Union. it was held in the US. The effect they have in the cold war was between the conclusion of US and Germany countries are having a hard time choosing from which one but having the NATO will give them protection. This is an example of Detente- to realize the tension they need to become a team. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The world was already taking sides with either the US or the Soviet Union. The USSR was set up missiles in Cuba that were discovered by the US to have a range of hitting any big us city. In Cuba. The effect it has on the cold war was these two superpower countries were at their end if one of them pulled the trigger, it was the end for the whole world. Instead, they negotiate a deal. This is an example of Brinkmanship- both sides were trying to achieve the best outcome by protecting themselves. -
Bay go pigs
It was where the CIA began training Cuban exiles to overthrow Castro.
The effect it had In the Cold war was the bay of pigs failed and the US and Cuba relations become rough so the Soviet union brought missiles to Cuba to bomb the US. This is an example of proxy war because the Soviet Union and the US are not fighting direct or confronting each other but they are involving Cuba to do their fighting. -
Nuclear Arms Treaties
An agreement was made between the Soviet Union and the US. Signed by Nixon Khrushchev the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT). it was held in Finland. The effect it has in the cold war was the tension between the US and USSR was easing because they limited the anti-ballistic missile and froze intercontinental missiles between the US and USSR. This is an example of Detente because these countries are easing the tension between them superpowers(US and Russia). -
Afghanistan/ Soviet war
the USSR invades Afghanistan in the hope to gain trust by supporting the Marxist Afghan government. This happened in Afghanistan. The effect it had in the cold war was the fall of communism because the Afghans don't like war and they were religious. This is an example of proxy war because these countries are using other countries as an alternative to fighting each other.
