    Following the USSR previous large military build up, President Reagon ordered the U.S. Military to be built up during the enormas peacetime. The soviets didnt respond because of the expenses. Heavy Burden for there economy was made by this.
  • Arms Race.

    Arms Race.
    The USSR was caused to reduce its costly arms race with President Reagan. But Reagans policies and arms buildup didnt allow the USSR to reduce its military spending.
  • Iran-Iraq War.

    Iran-Iraq War.
    1980-1985 officially began on Sept. 22nd 1980 when iraq invaded western iran. iraq blamed iran for the invasion over territory dispute for Shatt al Arab. In 1988 iran was forced to accept a United Nations Mandated Ceasefire.
  • Nuclear Missilies.

    Ronald Reagan signed the INF treaty which removed medium and short range nuclear missilies. The USA had over 2000 launchers, 11 thousand warheads, and 4 thousand megatonnage.

    It was to reduce nuclear and conventional ground-launched ballistic and cruise missiles with intermediate ranges that were capable of hiting the range of 500-5,500 km.
  • End of Soviet War in Afganistan.

    End of Soviet War in Afganistan.
    The final troop withdrawl from afganistan started on May 15th 1988 and ended on February 15 1989 under the last soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. This war was defined as the Soviet Unions Vietnam War becuase of the nature of conflicts.

    President from 1981-1989, and conserative optimist. Started his career as a sports announcer then moved to Hollywood and became a movie star, then served as governor of California then in 1980 defeated Jimmy Carter to become the 40th President.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was a 28 mile long guarded wall with minefields and checkpoints, it was to prevent defections and east Berliners from coming to the west. Which was later taken down and sold for currency. It was started to be taken down on November 9th but official demolition was started on June 13th 1990.

     Mikhail Gorbachev
    Former Soviet statesman, was general secretary of the communist party of the soviet union from 85-91 and was the last head of the USSR. He signed the INF Treaty in 1987. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990
  • Beginning of the Gulf War.

    It began with the invasion of Kuwait by iraqi troops in august 1990 this caused alot of other countrys including the U.S. to send troops to other countrys surrounding the main conflict like saudi arabia.
