    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was a "restoration of confidence of European people of the economic state of their county and of Europe as a whole" as stated and announced by George C. Marshall in which the plan was named after. The plan used ovre $13 billion to reach this goal.
  • Berlin Airlift

    In June 1948 the Russians, who wanted Berlin all to them selves decided to cut of any way of entering the city in hopes of driving Britain, France and the U.S. out because they wouldn't have any food or supplies, instead the U.S. and their allies supplied them selves by air providing over 2.3 tons of cargo into West Berlin in the course of a year this blockade lasted.

    The North Atlantic Treat Organization is made up of 12 western nations, the organization was designed in efforts to keep peace also to agree that if one of the 12 nation were into some sort of military or poltical stand off the other 11 would be involved too.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    The Korean war was between communist and non-communist forces of North and South Korea and lasted until July 27th, 1953. Although North Korea seemed to advance the majority of the war, North Korea did make advance as well. The Korean war was ended by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower after much difficulty and nuclear threats when an armistice agreement was signed.

    Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were convicted of espionage after accusation of selling nuclear recipes to the USSR. It was stated that this crime was worse than murder the Soviets now have Nuclear advantages and powers. The Rosenbergs were given the death setence.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam war happened after a build up of tension and conflict since the mid-1940's. The war was between communist Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam and there ally U.S. More than 3 million people were killed in the war. U.S. involvment resulted in contraversy and opposition, both before and after President Nixon ordered the withdrawl of U.S. forces in 1973. By 1975 communist forces seized control and a year later the country was unified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

    The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Union and 7 European nations signing a pact saying that they would all come to the defense of the other nations, although it also put the Soviets in command of armed forces of them nations.

    The Bay of Pigs invasion was an unsuccessful attempt by United States-backed Cuba in hopes to over throw the dictator of cuban government, but was a huge embarassment and a large fail within only two days.

    In August of 1961 the communist governemt of German Democratic Republic started to build a wall made of concrete and barb wire, the main purpose of the wall was to cause conflict between east and west but they said it was to keep western "facists" from entering east Germany.

    The cuban missile crisis was a 13-intense stand off between the U.S. and the soviet union over the installation of nulear-powered missiles on Cuba and island only 90 miles from U.S. coast lines. After a TV address to notify citizens, nuclear war was widly feared. But the Soviet Union agreed to remove cuban missiles if the U.S. agreed not to invade Cuba as well as the secret agreement to take U.S. missiles out of Turkey.

    Armstrong takes steps on moon
    Although taking 5 years to make the first unmanned launch by NASA president Kennedy believed that the U.S. needed to focus on and reach the goal of getting a man on the moon because of trailing the USSR in Space Development. Sending up 6 Apollos before Apollo 7 the first manned Apollo mission and leading up to Apollo 11 with the whole world watching which detached the Lunar Module 5 hours before schedule "Eagle has landed." Armstrong opened the hatched and stepped out, and the U.S. flag flied.
  • Nixon visits China

    Nixon visits China
    Known by the president himself as the "week that changed the world" in the meeting China prime minister urged early peace in Vietnam, but North Vietnam didn't think much of the meeting in fear that the U.S. and China would make a deal behind their backs. Despite their fears China aided Vietnam that levels increased significantly in late 1971 and lead to a major new offensive launch by North Vietnamise in March 1972.
  • Hockey Game

    In another dramamtic uphold between U.S. and four year gold medalists in hockey the Soviet Union, the college based U.S. hockey team came up with a win against the Soviets 4-3 and then two days later defeated Finland 4-2 bringing home the gold medal for ice hockey.
  • German Reunification

    October 3rd of 1990 is what is known as unity day, less than a year after the head of the East German communist party stated that the citizens of German Democratic Republic could cross the border whenever the pleased. Many crossed freely but many also brought hammers and picks and destrcted the wall.

    Just three days before Christmas day and the resignation of Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev representative from eleven Soviet republics declared they would no longer be part of the USSR leaving only one to remain. Although after a long, scary and bloody period in history the Soviet Union came to a peaceful ending.
