    President Harry S. Truman presented this address before Congress. His message, asked Congress for $400 million with help in economic along with military needs for Turkey and Greece. the legislators agreed to sign this plan by Truman because they realized that certain things in Greece and Turkey could be severe and greatly needed.

    This was the beginning to where America would aid Europe and give them support. America would give support to rebuild Europe after World war ll. Although this support was only temporary, the U.S goal was to help stabilize and further advance Europe’s technology, modernize their industries, and help them keep growing as a nation.

    The Berlin Airlift was an attempt made by the American and British officials to fly food, and other supplies into West Berlin. Over a period of 327 days planes were taking off every couple of minutes all day. Throughout 277,000 flights they were able to bring 2.3 million tons of supplies including fuel, food, medicine, and even Christmas presents.

    The Berlin blockade made Western Europe's fear of the Soviet's anger even bigger. So they created the North Alantic Treaty Organization or the NATO. NATO was a form of military alliance which was based on the North Alantic Treaty. It was signed on April, 4 1949. Members of NATO included the states that agreed to mutal defense in response to a attack made by someone else. There was 28 states which made up NATO.

    The U.S has its first time to detinate a thermonuclear weapon, the atomic bomb. This gave America a bit of relfief towards fighting with the Soviets. Once after the Soviet Union detonated their first bomb, America futher advanced their program to create this atomic bomb.

    The Warsaw Pact is given to the treaty between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. This treaty was signed in Poland in 1955 and was meant 'The Treaty of Friendship, Co-operation and Mutual Assistance'. It was a helpful thing for all involved because it assured them they would have help there to aid and get them back on track if needed after any type of destruction or incidents.

    This wall was not only a physical division between West Berlin and East Germany but also served as a symbolic boundary between democracy and communism during the Cold War. It leads to communism coming to an end finally. After about three decades the wall was beginning to be torn down.

    This missile crisis brought U.S and Soviet Union a scare of a possible nuclear war. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders of the U.S. and the Soviet Union were involved in a 13 day political and military standoff because of the making of nuclear missiles on Cuba. When people heard the news relayed from President Kennedy, they feared that the U.S would be on the verge of a nuclear war with Cuba.

    Initiated by General Moshe Dayan, Israeli's defense minister. It began on the 5th of June and end on June 10th. Israel against the Arab nations which included Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Within the six days Israel won the land war taking control of the Gaza Strip, and Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West bank, east Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golden Heights from Syria.

    As a part of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong became the very first man to walk on the moon in space. this accomplishment for the United States really put them ahead of the Soviets in the Space Race. It also helped with new information that people around the world could learn about space exploratoin.

    This was a war that lasted about nine years and was faught between the soviet union and the Afganistan forces. It ended with many Afganistan troops fleeing to Pakistan or being killed. Also the final Soviet troops began to withdrawl in 1988 under the command of soviet leader. Because of the destruction of this war, it was somethimes referrred to as the "soviet union vietnam war".
  • 1980 Olympic Hockey Game

    1980 Olympic Hockey Game
    The hockey game took place in Lake Placid, New York where the US mens team was to play the Soviet Union. About a month before the US played against the Soviet Union and lost so the Soviet's were the favored team. However the US was doing well in the Olympics winning all of their games, but still were not expected to win. But they beat the Soviet Union 4-3 and continued on to win the 1980's Men's Olympic Games Gold Medal by defeating Finland.

    President Ronald Regan got threats by nations. Regan decides to have marines invade Grenada also known as Operatoion Urgent Fury as the codename. In just over a week, Grenada's goverment had been overthrown.

    This was an arangment between the United States (Regann) and Soviet Union(Mikhail Gorbachev) about long range missles and short range missle usage. This was usually referred to as the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces. This treaty that was signed stated that all the sites of any kind of missle launching should be destroyed and no longer used.

    Although the wall was not necessarily to separate people or the two divisions, many families or friends were separated from each other for over 28 years while the wall was up. Once it was torn down many people finally got to reunite with their loved ones, and made something like a celebration of it.

    The primary causes of the fall of the USSR were political and economic reasons, which also lead to more problems after. Economically all the soviets turned to importing/exporting goods, which had poor in quality. There was a lot of secrecy to the people, along with incorrect information. One thing after another, all forming up to the government unfortunately collapsing because of a non-running government and military system.
