    A massive program of aid from the United States to sixteen western and southern European countries aimed at helping economic renewal. it offically began in 1948 and was officially known as the European Recovery Program.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    the berlin airlift was when western countries delivered much needed food and supplies to the city of Berlin through the air because all other routes were blocked by the Soviet Union. The army estimated that it would take over 1500 tons of food each day to keep them alive. the soviets thought that this plan would never work and the people would just give up and quit trying. May 12, 1949 the Soviet Union stopped the blockade and the airlift was over. yay:)

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization aka NATO, is a military alliance of countries from europe ande north america promising defence, currently there are 26 nations. after the second world war the soviets occupied much of eastern europe. 12 countries had to sign this including the united states of america, canada and great britain.

    this war was fought between south korea and the communist North Korea. The Soviet Union supported North Korea and the United States supported South Korea. When the war ended there was very little resolution. to this date the countries are still divided. the person in the picture is my cousin Herb Wong who was in the korean war

    The treaty between Albania, Bulgaria ,East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Soviet Union, and Czechoslovakia was signed in Poland in 1955.

    the United States trained Cuban exiles and then sent them to Cuba to try and overthrow Fidel Castro's government. This is considered part of the Cold War because the United States attempted to prevent communism from taking hold.

    The Berlin Wall was built by the communist government of East Berlin. The wall separated East Berlin and West Berlin. It was built in order to prevent people from leaving East Berlin. The wall was called the iron curtain because it separated the democratic western countries and communist countries of eastern europe.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred in 1962 when the Soviet Union began to install nuclear missiles in Cuba. The United States said that they would not allow this and after thirteen tense days and many negotiations, the Soviet Union agreed to remove the missiles.

    The Six-Day War was fought between June 5th and June 10th.he war was against Syria, Jordan and Egypt. Israel believed that before the 3 countries militaries teamed up and had a massive strike against Israel. in 1956 the United Nations had set a presidence in the middle east. as of May 1967, the Egyptians had said that the United Nations were no longer wanted in the Suez region.

    Going in to the 1972 Olympics team USA was exspected to be the easy winners of the gold medal. there overall record was 55-0. Why wouldnt they win? Things changed in the 72 olympics. During the final game against the soviet union the game was much closer then the ones before them.

    This invasion that lead to the war was fought by Afghanistan rebels called Mujahideen. the soviets supported the afghanistany goverment. The United States supported the Afghanistan rebels because of the effort of trying and attempting to overthrow the communist goverment and to stop the spread of communism.

    On this date in history a miracle happened that no body thought was possible, The USA took on the soviet union when people thought they wouldnt make it that far. Mike Eruzione the captain for team USA put the winning goal in against the soviet union to win the game and win the gold medal at Madison Square Gardens in New York CIty, New York. Team USA won the game with the ending score being 4-3 and winning the gold medal.

    In 1987 President Ronald Reagan asked Mikhail Gorbachev the soviet union leader to "tear down the wall". about the time this was asked the soviet union was falling apart and falling fast. they were losing control of east germany and then couldnt get a hold of them again. on November 9, 1989 the announcement that the borders were gone and the people could travel freeley to where ever they wanted. much of the wall was taken down by the people. on October 3 of 1990 Germany was known to be 1 country
  • Falling of the Soviet Union

    Falling of the Soviet Union
    The collapse of the Soviet Union started in the late 1980s and was complete when the country broke up into 15 independent states on christmas of 1991. This was the main signal that the cold war between the united states and the soviet union was over for now at least and to this day we still have not been back to war with them.
