    Formation of the United Nations
    Delegates from 50 countries, including Britain, the Soviet Union, the United States and Canada, met in San Francisco to create the United Nations. Declaration of the United Nations endorsing the Atlantic Charter, pledging to use their full resources against the Axis and agreeing not to make a separate peace.

    In Hiroshima, the United States exploded an Atomic Bomb and started the Atomic age. President Truman was the one who wanted to use the bomb, he took full responsibility for his actions.
  • Gouzenko Affair

    Gouzenko Affair
    Igor Gouzenko walked out of the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa. He carried several documents relating to Soviet activities between Canada and United States. He stole the documents so that he could prove that there was a Russian spy ring in Canada. The Soviets wanted to find, and kill him, so him and his family had to be re-located and change their identities.

    North Korea's invasion on South Korea produced heavy military and naval involvement by the United States. Canada was not involved.

    The Cancellation of the Avro Arrow
    The Avro Arrow was a white jet interceptor deleved in Malton, Ontario in the 1950s. It could have become the fastest plane in the world and the best defence against Soviet bombers. Instead it became a pile of scrap metal worth $400 million.

    A military conflict located in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Fought between North Vietnam and South Vietnam, supported by the United States and other anti-communist countries. They fought the war against anti-communist forces in the region.
  • Suez Crisis

    Suez Crisis
    Diplomatic and military confrontation between Egypt on one side, and Britain, France, and Israel on the other, with United States, the Soviet Union, and the United Nations trying to get Britain, France and Israel to withdrawl. Israel invaded Egypt first.
  • Formation of NORAD

    The North American Air/Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a continental air defense warning and surveillance system in response to Cold War fears.

    The Berlin Wall was the physical division between West Berlin and East Germany, it was also the symbolic boundary between democracy and communism.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    When the soviets placed nuclear missiles in Cuba. The soivet union said they would remove the missiles if the US didn't invade Cuba. Cuba. Nuclear weapons were passing by Canada during that time and it scared Canada.
  • SALT Treaty

    SALT I ran from 1969 to 1972, and resulted in the anti-ballistic missile treaty. SALT stands for Strategic Arms Limitation Talks. The interim agreement between the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics with respect to the Limitation of Strategic Offensive arms.
  • Strategic Defense Initiative

    Strategic Defense Initiative
    also known as Star Wars, the intention of this was to create a "sophisticated" anti-ballistic missile system in order to prevent missile attacks from other countries(espically the soivet union). Canada was not involved in this.

    The union of the Soviet Solialist Republics did not want to exist, when the supreme Soviet voted to dissolve itself following the resignition of President Mikhail Gorbachev.
