  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift was organized by Western leaders due to the Soviets' blockade of all land, rail, and water routes going into West Berlin. There was no way to get food, coal, and other necessary supplies so the Berlin Airlift was organized to supply Berlin's two million citizens by air.

    NATO was a military alliance between the U.S, Canada, and many other Western Nations. It was designed to resist Soviet power in Europe.

    Korean War

  • Korean War

    Korean War starts when Communist North Korea attacks democratic South Korea. The Communist government of North Korea wanted to unite Korea under a Communist government. U.S and UN forces went to help South Korea fight North Korea and in 1953, the war ended.
  • First Fusion Bomb

    The U.S discovery that Soviet Union had an atomic bomb of their own led to the U.S feeling that they needed to create more deadly and powerful weapons. That's when the hydrogen bomb was deveioped and tested. The U.S wanted a military advantage over Soviet Union again.
  • Nuclear Arms Race

    The U.S and Soviet Union struggled to gain an advantage in weapons. Soon the U.S had far more nuclear weapons than Soviet Union and fears of a nuclear war emerged in the U.S.
  • Warsaw Pact Alliance

    The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance between Soviet Union and the other Communist nations of Eastern Europe. It was designed to protect themselves it attacked by the U.S and the Western nations in Western Europe.
  • Cuban Misslle Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis was the confrontation between the U.S and Soviet Union over Soviet nuclear missiles being located in Cuba. The U.S demanded the Soviets to remove the missiles. After 2 weeks, Soviet Union removed the missiles in exchange of the U.S removing missiles in Turkey and promising the Soviets that they would not attack Cuba.
  • SALT I Begins

    The U.S and Sovet Union held SALT I to discuss nuclear weapon limitation agreements. This was one step towards peace between the U.S and Soviet Union.
  • Nuclear Forces Treaty Signed

    Gorbachev and Reagan both signed the Nuclear Forces Treaty as the step towards peace between the U.S and Soviet Union. This treaty reduced the amount of nuclear weapons the U.S and Soviet Union held and produced.
  • Cold War Ends

    The collapse of the Soviet Union led to the end of the Cold War. Soviet Union's collapse was due to many nations that were under Soviet control started gaining and demanding independence.
