    Uncle Toms Cabin
    Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book, Uncle Tom's Cabin, changed how people viewed slavery in the 1800s. It showed how bad slavery really was rather than what people thought it was. This book was claimed to be the reason for the Civil war.     Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed in May 30, 1854. This act allowed people in the Kansas and Nebraska areas to decide to have slavery or not. The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed to try and repeal the Missouri Compromise of 1820. The passing of this Act caused chaos. Pro and anti-slavery supporters tried to fill Kansas with as many voters as possible, causing violence.

    The court case was called Dred Scott v. Sanford. This case was about Dred Scott who was living in a free state then moved back to a slave state. He tried to "appeal to the Supreme Court", trying to get his freedom freedom, but because he was a slave he was not considered a citizen.     The election of 1860 didnt make secession inevitable. The elecction possibly provided a resolution to the sectionalism problem and provided a glimpse of hope for those who wanted to maintain the union. President Lincoln did not win the popular vote.     Confederate States of America
    The Confederate States of America included 11 southern states. These states were brought into the CSA after they had sceded from the North or the Union. These 11 states were: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Jefferson Davis was the president and Alexander H. Stephens was the vice president. The Confederate flag included a star for every state.

    This document was created in an attempt to free the slaves. Unfortunetly this did not free all the slaves. The Proclmation had actually only declared slaves free not under Union control.     Gettysburg Address
    This address was given by President Abraham Lincoln to dedicate a cemetery to Gettysburg. The cemetery was a where more than 51,000 southern and northern soldiers lay dead or missing. Before Lincoln spoke, it took 2 1/2 hours to introduce him. Lincoln's speech took only 5 mins.

    The 14th amendment was to allow African Americans citizenship and all its privileges. The 14th amendment was passed in 1866 but was not ratified til July of 1868.     The competetion for Presidency was between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel J. Tilden. Tilden won the Popular vote. Hayes had become President due to the electoral votes being contested. The senate had voted for Hayes as president. People say that it was fixed for Hayes to win. This was known as the Compromise of 1877. This was where federal troops would pull out of the south and making promises regarding the rights of African Americans in the south.
