There were 300,000 copies sold in the United States the first year.The significance of this book is that it changed the way that Americans saw slavery. It made Americans think about freedom and equality and helped contribute to the civil war.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act was a bill that was introduced by Senator Stephen Douglas to divide the land west of Missouri into two territories. These two territories were Kansas and Nebraska. He argued that the settlers of these should be able to decide if slavery would be legal.
