chemistry history timeline

  • Beginning of Civil war

    Beginning of Civil war
It was the confederacy(the south) verses the Union(the north) fighting over slavery. It occured in United States. It lasted four years and the Union won.
  • Gettysburgh Adress

    Gettysburgh Adress
Lincoln's famous speech the entailed Equality of people. He said this speech at gettysburgh PA after a battle with the Confederacy during the Civil War.
  • Lincoln assasinated

    Lincoln assasinated
He was assasinated in Washington D.C, killed by John Wilkes Booth in Fords theator. Video link:http://www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/abraham-lincoln/videos/the-other-side-of-lincoln-lincolns-assassination
  • Law of Octaves

    Law of Octaves
The law of octaves was made by J.A.R Newlands in England. He stated that chemical elements are arranged according to increasing atomic weight and elements with similar properties reoccur after every 7 elements.(Periodic Pattern)
  • Andrew Johnson impeached

    Andrew Johnson impeached
House of representatives voted 11 articles of impeachment against him. This took place in D.C
  • Mendeleev's Periodic Table

    Mendeleev's Periodic Table
The Mendeleev periodic tablw was created by Dmitri Mendeleev in Russia. He published a periodic table in order of atomic mass, similar elements, fell into verticle columns, and was able to predict future elements.
  • Discovery of the Electron

    Discovery of the Electron
J.J Thomson discovered the electron in England. He confirmed the existance of the most important elementary particles. Inside a cathode using voltage, flourecent streams of electricity travelled from top to bottom thus proving his theory of the electron.
  • Beginning of Spanish American war

    Beginning of Spanish American war
Conflict between the U.s and Spain in the southern pacific of the United states and into latin America. The united states won and gained territories in the western pacific and parts of latin america.
  • Plum pudding model

    Plum pudding model
The plum pudding model was discovered by J.J Thomson in England. He stated an atom is made up of electrons surrounded by a substance of positively charged "pudding".
  • SF earthquake

    SF earthquake
struck coast of norhtern California with a magnatude of 7.8. 3,000 people died. destroyed over 80% of Sanfrancisco.
  • Discovery of the Neutron

    Discovery of the Neutron
Discovered by Ernest Rutherford in England. Had gold foil bombarded with radioactive particles and noticed the rays didn't pass through the center mass of the atoms classifying those particles as positively charged.
  • Rutherfords Gold Foil Experiment

    Rutherfords Gold Foil Experiment
The gold foil experiment was done by Ernest Rutherford in England. He discovered that an atom's mass consisted mostly of protons with electrons orbiting the protons. He proved this by shooting radioactive particles at gold foil and only some of it went straight through to the x-ray film.
  • Titanic Disaster

    Titanic Disaster
It hit an iceberg in the north Atlantic ocean.
  • Bohr's Planetary Model of the Atom

Bohr's Planetary Model of the Atom
Made in England by Niels Bohr. He discovered that electrons travel in increasing larger orbits and that the outher orbits could hold more electrons. He also stated that the outer orbits determine chemical properties.
  • Mosely/ Atomic Numbers

    Mosely/ Atomic Numbers
Henery Mosely discovered this in England. He observed properties of x-rays form elements. The waveleangths becames shorter as the atomic number increased.
  • World War 1

    World War 1
Global war centured in Europe . More tha 9 million soldiers killed. 21 million soldiers wounded.
  • Shrodinger Eqaution

    Shrodinger Eqaution
Erwin Schrodinger made a fundemental equation of quantom mechanics in Austria. Had functions that govern the motion of particles.
  • Great Depression

    Great Depression
Deepest and longest economic downturn in the hisrtory of the industrialized world. wiped out millions of investors.
  • Discovery of the Proton

    Discovery of the Proton
Discovered by James Chadwick in England. Figured out that the nucleus was about twice the weight of a proton therefore a neutral particle must be present(neutron).
  • World War 2

    World War 2
Germany Started the war by invading poland and the caused polands alies to help them; polands' allies were called the allies(Great Britan, France, the United States, and the Soviet union. The opposition was called the Axis(Germany, Italy, and Japan.) This war mainly occured in europe and the allied powers won.
