Importance: It was important that Lewis Clark was picked as commander, because if he was not in charge the trip may not have been so succesful. He proved to be the right man for the job. -

Americans bought Lousiana from France for 15 million dollars. Importance: The Louisiana Puchase has been called the largest land deal in History. -

Importance: Lewis and Clark started traveling west of the Mississippi River to find land for America -
Meeting with Oto and Missouri Indians
Lewis and Clark met with representatives from the Oto and Missouri Indians, to give them peace metals, star flags and other gifts.
Importance: This meeting is important because Lewis and Clark made peace with the Indians and created a safer environment between the poeple. -

THe men tried to drwon a prariew dog to kill it and send back to President Jefferson.
Importance: The men on the expedition worked hard tom discover new species of animals. -
Confrontation with Teton Sioux
Americans have a confrontation with Teton Sioux, who demanded one of the boats as a toll to travel farther up the river. Chief Black Buffalo resolved the situation, and the Americans stayed with the tribe for 3 more days after.
Importance:Strong ties with the Native Americans and more ties to the land. -
Toussaint Charbonneu and Sacagawea
Charbonneu is a french Canadian fur trapper living with the Hidatsas is hired as an interpreter. He is married to Sacagawea who is also considerd helpful. Importance: Sacagawea is famous for being very helpful to Lewis and Clark during the expedition. -
The birth of Jean Baptiste
Scagewea gives birth to her son Jean Baptiste.
Importance: He becomes the youngest member. -

Lewis nad another hunter discovered and killed a grizzly bear that had never beeen seen before in sciene. Importance:The grizzly bear had yet to be discovered, and Lewis began discovering and observing more animals in the west. -

The expedition of Lewis, Clark, Sacagawea and their men reaches the Columbia River.
Importance:American knowledge of the land, and land for trade and commerce. -
Settlement at the Columbia River
People on the expedition decide by a majority vote where they will settle on the Columbia River to build winter headquarters.
Importance: Tis was the first time in history that a women (Sacagewea) was allowed to vote wothin a group of men. -

Exedition reaches the Bitterroot Mountains, but the men have to wait for the snow to melt to start the journey over them.
Impotrance: While waiting the Americans form a good friendship with the Nez Perce Indians. -

Importance: Their expedition had come to an end and they were treated as national heroes for their journey and discoveries.
