    The documents that he took from the embassy specified a Soviet spy ring operating in Canada. The first attempts were failures however this situation was kept silent for 5 months until he was held for interrogation and the spy ring became public internationally which became the signals for the cold war. Whenever he appeared in public he wore a bag covering his head.

    The Suez Crisis was a diplomatic and military confrontation between Egypt as one, and Britain, France and Israel as the other. Other major roles were involved forcing Britain, France and Israel to with drawl. Israel bombed Cairo; Anglo-French forces withdrew before the end and Israeli forces stayed until March 1957. By April, the canal was reopened along with consequences. The bombing happened for the regain of western control of the canal and to remove Nasser from power.

    The Continental Defense was a system of radar stations throughout the far northern Arctic region of Canada, North Coast and Aleutian Islands of Alaska, Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Iceland. These stations were used to detect incoming Soviet bombers during the Cold War and also a warning of invasion and attack.

A friendship treaty with the Soviet Union and the U.S. was signed on December 5, 1978 as well as on July 3, 1979, the first instruction for secret help to the enemies of the pro-Soviet government in Kabul was signed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

    The summer Olympics took place in this year in Los Angeles, California, U.S. The only other interested city was Tehran and they dropped their bid because of the Iranian political and social alterations the IOC gave Los Angeles the Games by default.
