How does God continue to advance his mission to reflect His glory in this story?
He wanted to test Abraham's faith to see if he would sacrifice his beloved only son. This was a foreshadowing type of Jesus' death, where he would sacrifice his one and only son, and there was also a ram to substitute Isaac. I think he continues to do this by challenging us to give up our "idols" (smart phones, etc.) to focus on our faith for God. -

Cause: His brothers jealousy when given a rainbow coat and telling his family about his dream where his family bows to him.
Effect: He has high status in Potiphar's house for being hardworking.

In Genesis 37, it shows how Joseph's closest family members, his brothers, betrayed and sold him. This happened to Jesus also, where he was betrayed by his closest disciples. Reuben wanted to save Joseph from his brother's evil plan. We could see the similarity of the same type of love given to Jesus by Peter, who wanted to follow Jesus. But, when Joseph was sold, Reuben had no choice but to follow the plan of pretending Joseph was dead, like how Peter pretended he didn't know Jesus.

Cause: His brothers jealousy selling him to slavery
Effect: He becomes in command of Potiphar's house for his hard work --> gains the lustful attention of Potiphar's wife

Cause: Potiphar's wife accused him of trying to sleep with her when it was she who wanted to sleep with him.
Effect: He reads the dreams of a baker and cupbearer and the cupbearer gets out --> becomes prison manager

Cause: The cupbearer who he read the dream of in prison remembers Joseph and tells the Pharaoh Joseph can interpret his dream that talked about how Egypt would have 7 good years and 7 famine years.
Effect: Joseph gets out of jail and becomes second in command of Egypt, saving both his entire family and the entirety of Egypt.

In Matthew 26, it says how Judas will betray Jesus, just like Joseph's brothers did to him. We can also see how Peter wanted to follow Jesus to the cross and wasn't afraid, but chickened out and disowned him. Reuben had planned to save Joseph when their brothers left, but when Joseph was already sold, he had to pretend Joseph was dead along with his brother, instead of telling their father the truth. We can see that both Reuben and Peter were both sad, since one weeped and one tore his clothes.

God promised to make Canaan a home for the Israelites forever. After much time, they got their land back on May 14, 1948 and the place is now called Israel (verse 8 "The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you;") . In the world right now, there are about 16.6 million Jews, fulfilling God's covenant of making Abraham's descendants (verse 2) "greatly increase your numbers". (Genesis 17:1-8).

In WWW 7th grade, I went to Cambodia. I'm a germaphobe, and I had to sacrifice my comfort for the kids we served. They carried lice, and the showers were buckets. The floors were sludge, and I hadn't brought flip flops so I walked barefoot in the mud all day. (Genesis 22:2 "Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there") I don't love my phobia, but I had to give up my comfort for the kids to be happy which made me happy too.
