George Washington supposedly paid Betsy a visit to discuss designing a new flag for the nation.

Betsy allegedly finalized the flag design, arguing for five point stars.

Betsy married her second husband, a sailor, and had two daughters. A few years later in 1782 her husband was apprehended while working as a privateer in the West Indies and died in a British prison.

A year later, Betsy married John Claypoole who had been imprisoned in England with her 2nd husband. A few months after they got married, the Treaty of Paris was signed, ending the Revolutionary War. They went on to have five daughters.
