    At the age of 16 Chomsky entered the University of Pennsylvania. Where he studied Linguistics. In 1949 Chomsky achieved a bachelor's degree in Linguistics.
  • Completed His Masters

    His 1951 master’s thesis was titled "The Morphophonemics of Modern Hebrew"(biography.com), and observed the generative grammar of the Hebrew language.
  • Harvard

    Chomsky attended Harvard University as a Ph.D student from 1951 to 1955. At this time, his first academic article “systems of Syntactic Analysis’ appeared in The Journal of Symbolic Logic.
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology

  • Publishing

    Influenced by his ideas of his mentor, Zellig Harris, Chomsky published his famous work, "Syntactic Structures." His work states that the grammatical function, or meaning, of a sentence is dependent on a structural organization.

    Chomsky established his linguistic theory "Aspects of the Theory of Syntax"
  • Linguistic Theory Continued

    Chomsky established his linguistic theory “The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory." His later works in cognitive science supports his claims, while his influence on linguistics can be paralleled to Charles Darwin's work in the realm of evolution and biology.
  • Retirement

    Chomsky officially retired from MIT in 2002, however still continued doing research and holding seminars as an emeritus faculty member.
  • Fellowship

    Noam Chomsky won an honorary fellowship at the Literary and Historical Society in 2005.
  • Honorary Doctor's Degree

    Chomsky also received the Uppsala University Honorary Doctor’s degree in 2007 this was named after Carolus Linnaeus.
  • President's Medal

    He was honored with the President’s Medal from the Literary and Debating Society of the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2008.
  • International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters

    Chomsky has been serving as an honorary member of The International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) since 2009
