Democritus
Democritus was born in Abdera, Thrace. His exact contributions with coming up with the atom idea are difficult to disentangle from those of his mentor Leucippus, as they are often mentioned together in texts, he and Leucippus were working together on this idea. There main idea was that Democritus claimed that everything is made up of atoms. These atoms are physically, but not geometrically, indivisible; between atoms lies empty space. -
John Dalton
Dalton was born on the 6th of Spetember in Eaglesfield, Cumberland, England. Daltons theory was much expained upon in 1808 when coming up with the idea of all the elements are created from atoms but differ from other elements atoms. He also introduced compounds. The final part of his theory stated that when elemets are joined, seperated, or rearranged a chemical reaction occurs, In his exact words. Dalton delvloped this idea with the help from his teachers and other scientist on the atom idea -
J.J Thomson
Thomson was born on the 18th of December 1856, Mancheter, England. After researching the atom theory he became upon a discovery of the electrons. He realized an atom has: smaller pieces (protons and electrons) and positive and negative charges are = in magnitude since a atom is neutral. Several scientist help him with this idea and also conducting electricty in gases was made through Thomson. -
Rutherford
Rutherford was born on the 30th of August 1871, Brightwater, Tasman District, New Zealand. Rutherford's discovery had added to the atom theory which was discovering the large atomic nucleus and attraction of electrons around it. He gathered evidence and proof of this from the Gold foil experement in the day. Rutherford had discovered this himself after understanding the effects of the gold foil experiment. -
Bohr
Bohr was born on the 7th of October 1885 Copenhagen, Denmark. Bohr had discovered that in the atom there is protons in the nucleus and electrons surrounded it, electrons are in only certain energy levels, outer electron determine the chemical property and electrons with low energy orbit closer to nucleus. Bohr and the Univeristy of Copenhagen came up with idea. -
Chadwick
Chadwick was born on the 20 of October 1891 Bollington, Cheshire, England. Chadwick discovered theneutron. Neutrons help stabilize the protons in the atom's nucleus. This nowe was a fairly clear idea of what an atom had. He discovered this himself with the evidence of beryllium was bombarded with positively charged alpha particles a beam with a high penetrating power was created.
