Atomic Timeline Project

  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
Discovered atoms were the smallest basic unit of matter, and created the solid sphere model, where an atom is depicted as literally a simple sphere.
  • JJ Thomson

    JJ Thomson
Electrons discovered as a result of trying to solve cathode rays. Cadothe rays occur from the electric current exiting a vessel from which most air and other gas is gone.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
Using the gold foil experiment, he discovered the nucleus, and the modern model of the nuclear atom (the nuclear atomic model). He was the first person to split the atom, and also during this experiment he discovered and named the proton in this experiment.
  • JJ Thomson

    JJ Thomson
Created an atomic model with electrons called the Plum Pudding Model.
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
Bohr discovered the planetary model of the atom, which included neutrons and protons in the nucleus, with electrons orbiting around it. He applied the quantum theory to Rutherford's structure. Bohr also discovered the line emission spectrum which includes the exciting of atoms. Unfortunately, the model only worked for hydrogen.
