    Democritus

    Democritus was a Greek Philosopher. He thought that you would end up with a particle that could not be cut or divided anymore. He called the atom.
  • John Dalton

    He was a schoolteacher, who wanted to know why elements combined in certain proportions based on mass to form compounds. He published his Atomic Theory in 1803. It had 3 parts to it. First, it stated that all substances are made of atoms. Atoms are small particles that cannot be created, divided, or destroyed. Next, it states that atoms of the same element are exactly alike, and atoms of different element are different.
  • Aristotle

    Aristotle disagreed with Democritus. Aristotle thought that water, fire, earth, air, and aether made matter. His idea had a strong influence on many people’s ideas that for a long time, most people thought that he was right. However, Democritus was right.
