Democritus discovered atoms and their presence in the atmosphere. His theory states that atoms are in all form existence, and it can not get any smaller than an atom. He used his surroundings and senses to discover his teory. Democritus had a mentor, Leucippus which he used his work to aid him.

john Dalton discorvered that all matter is made of atoms. All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties, compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms. A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. His theory became the basis foundation in chemistry.. He said that atoms made up objects.

Joseph John Thompson

Thompson discovered electrons. This was attemped by many other scientists at his time. He helped the study of atoms by discovering the atom and how to make bonds stable. How he discovered electrons was by studying the nature of electric discharge in a high vacuum cathode-ray tube.

Ernest Rutherford

Rutherford worked on radioactivity decay. He discovered Rutherfordium and half life. He was the pioneer of nuclear physics. The Geiger-Marseden experiment involved him, Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden trying to examine the structure of an atom. The result demonstrated the existence of the atomic nucleus which aided Rutherford to his model of the atom.

Neils Bohr

Bohr discovered that "electrons travel only in cerain successively larger orbits". He left his atomic model, which is still is wide use today. Neils' theory was based offf of Rutherford's "plum-pudding" model.

James Chadwick

James discovered the neutron in 1932. He helped the sudy of the atom by resolving the weight of atoms confusion at his time. The neutrons have no electrical charge. Chadwick created an experiment to find the unknown nucleus mass source. the experiment consisted of smashing alpha particles into beryllium. that allowed the radiation to hit paraffin wax. the results showed with the beryllium atoms collision released neutral particles, hence neutrons.
