    As sports were rising in popularity in college, like football there was and increase in injuries and over 18 deaths because of the nature of the sport. At the time President Roosevelt was not happy with the outcome and posed the idea of banning college football in 1905. Because of this being proposed universities had an idea to have people work on the field to prevent injury.

    The person that is considered the shaper of the Athletic Training community is Samuel E. Bilik. In 1917 he published a book called "The Trainers Bible", it was the first book written about Athletic Training.

    In 1959 the first Athletic Training curriculum was approved and it included courses like Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, First Aid and Safety, etc.

    In 1967 The American Medical Association recognized Athletic Training as a professional Organization
  • NATA Certification

    In 1970 The first exam was administered for national certification to be a Athletic Trainer.
  • Board of Certification

    In 1989 the responsibility Of the certification exam was handed off to the nonprofit Board of Certification, they were able to measure that Athletic trainers maintained the right requirements

    In 1990, Being an Athletic Trainer was recongnized fully as a medical health profession by the AMA, and The Joint Review Committee on Educational programs was formed(JRC-AT)

  • Athletic Trainers Placed

    From 1997-1999, It was required the the American Academy of pediatrics for Athletic Trainers to be placed in all secondary schools, and it was strongly recommended by the AMA that schools with athletic programs to provide and Athletic Trainer
  • Present Time

    From the 2000s- present time there are over 60,000 certified Athletic Trainers, and 30,000 of them have a NATA global membership. There is wearable technology like heart monitors, and GPS trackers, CrossFit equipment, data analysis, etc.
