When Arthur was seventeen, his mother died of cancer (leukemia). His father was an abusive alcoholic, and when he quickly remarried, Arthur left home for good.

Using an inheritance Arthur lived in Amsterdam for a year around 1969-1970.

Around Arthur joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints.

In 1998 Arthur began work at a Family History Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While working at the center he discovered his father had died while looking through records there.

Arthur Kane died July 13, 2004 in Los Angeles from Leukemia. He died within within two hours of his diagnosis.

Following Arthur's death a friend of Arthurs, Greg Whiteley, made a documentary about his life leading up to and during the reunion concert. The documentary premieres at Sundance to rave reviews and currently has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
