  • Arnold is Born

    Arnold Palmer was born September 10, 1929. His hometown is Latrobe, Pennsylvania (Flatter).
  • Early Life

    As a young child, Arnold Palmer started playing Golf. He was introduced to Golf by his Father, who was the golf professional and groundskeeper at Latrobe Country Club (Flatter). Arnold grew up with his two sisters (Louis Jean and Sandra) and a brother (Jerry). As Arnold grew up, he got better and better at golf (Arnold Palmer Biography).
  • High School

    By the age of 17, Arnold had already won two high school State Championships and a West Pennsylvania Amateur Championship (Flatter)! In addition to his impressive high school golf resume, he committed to play golf at Wake Forest University.
  • Coast Guard

    After Arnold dropped out of college his senior year, he joined the Coast Guard for three years and began playing in Amateur events when he was stationed in Cleveland (Arnold Palmer Bigography).

    Arnold Palmer won his first Masters Tournament after a fellow golfing legend, Ben Hogan, had said that Palmer hadv't proved himself enough to even be at the Masters (Bensinger).   • Arnold wins the British Open

    Arnold wins the British Open
    In 1961, Arnold won his first British Open. It was weird for an American to play in the British Open at this time because it was the only major tournament (out of four) that wasn't hosted in America (Robinson).   • Arnold Palmer becomes Golf's first Millionaire!

    Arnold Palmer ended up getting second in the PGA Championship this year but the prize money he had earned from 2nd place made him the first golfer to earn over $1 million due to his winnings in tournaments (Flatter).
  • Arnold wins the PGA Senior Championship

    Arnold Palmer won the Seniors PGA Tour Championship. This was special because it was the first PGA Senior tour event he had ever entered (Flatter)!
  • Prostate Cancer

    In 1997, Arnold as diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, but had surgery to get it removed and continued to play on the Senior tour (Flatter). This and many family members battles with cancer made him donate to cancer research!
  • Arnold Palmer Retires

    After Arnold Palmer's 50 year professional career, he retired a legend. After this, he has made appearances to tournaments but hasn't played competitively (PGAtour.com). His 62 PGA tour victories have him at fifth on the all time PGA tour win list (PGAtour.com). In addition, Arnold won seven major Championships (PGAtour.com)
  • Congressional Gold Medal

    In 2009, he was recognized for his service in many communities and his outstanding golf career with the Congressional Gold Medal (PGAtour.com). One huge thing he has done for communities is funding for hospitals to be built throughout the United States.
  • Arnold Palmer is the 3rd highest-paid retired athlete

    Forbes magazine named Palmer the third highest-paid retired athlete from 2014-2015 (Badenhausen). In this year, Arnold made $42 million. He trailed David Beckham (#2) and Michael Jordan (#1).
  • Arnold Palmer designs a course in Scotland

    Arnold Palmer flew to Scotland to see the course that he designed be built (Arnold Palmer Visits site of his frst Scots Course). The course took over $7 million dollars to build, which shows Palmer's undying love for the game and shows that he wants to spread the sport of Golf!
  • Arnold Palmer Today

    Today, Arnold Palmer continues to be a huge impact on society through tons of charity organizations. Next, his help through funding and developing hospitals is a great thing to do. Finally, he stays in touch with golf by designing courses and sponsoring tournaments!
