Gorbachev becomes leader
Mikhail Gorbachev becos a new communist party general secretary. He is a new change considering all past leaders have been old, and use old ways. Without knowing the events hes going to put in place it will start the fall of the Soviet Union. -
Yeltsin becomes head.
Gorbachev gives the position of Head of Moscow Communist party to Boris Yeltsin. All so in this time he appoins Eduard shevardnadze, head of communist party in the republic of Georgia. He believed in having a more liberal society, as well as Yeltsin believed in change too. -
Beginning of Perestrolka
Gorbachev starts to have deeep political and economic reforms, which he wanted to bring democracy to society. He is having the high support of the USSR inside and outside. this is the beginnning of Perestrolka. It becomes very popular, so he publishes a book which goes worldwide. -
Yeltsin forced out of his job
Yeltsin is forced out of being the Moscow party Boss. He wanted Perestroika to move faster and so he critizied gorbachev for taking it to slowly. He then didnt like Gorbachev at all, so Gorbachev allowed to to be the Deputy construction minister of Moscow. -
perestroika problems
This was the start to perestroikas problems. It started by the bureaucrats trying to stop his his economic changes. Later on the communist newspaper tried to convince all communist to not follow his changes. Later on president Regean came toe Moscox who suggested a new presidency and elected parliament. -
Yeltsin elected to parliament
The beginnings of the election for new paliament start asnpart as Gorbachevs new changes. Yeltsin wins the election is now back in national politics. As well in this times Gorbachev pulls the soviet troops out of the Afghanistan. After the elections a gathering in the republic of Georgia is broken up by soviet troops. -
Soviet bloc crumbles
Gorbachev desides that countires part of the warsaw pack are free to make there one decisions. in eastern Europe people want change, and are taking chances to making that happen. In spetember Hungary opens its borders to the west. People in Eastern Europe take part in the exodus to Austria. Pesestroika takes part in the west. -
The fall of the Berlin Wall
The berlin wall is torn down in honor of poeple power. As Gobachev empire is falling down, people think he will react of the fall but he chooses to not do anything. Freedom grows over the Soviet bloc, and Gorbachev becomes more unpopular and the living standards are decreasing and the dissatisfaction of perestroika is starting to take place. -
Protesters are killed byt soviet troops
The Balitc states are still resisitng Gorbachev as he trys to win thre support. After Moscow left the Warsaw Pact, the Soviet Republic wasn't ready to follow. IN January oviet troops had to break up a agthering in Azerbaihan, About 100 people died. -
Yeltsin Leaves communist
Yeltsin backs dow from the communist party, Gorbaqchev still remains a hero, then in november he wins the Nobel Peace Prize, this is when Germany is reunited. Back at his nhome he is still very unpopular and facing problems, so he moves towards hard politics. -
Yeltsin still the Russian president
The Russians are still intact with the Soviet Union, and when they were allowed to vote they chose Yeltsin. With his arch-rivalry Gorbachev they both work in offices at Kremlin. In march thr soviet union found that the mojority of poeple wants to have the reformed union to be retained, where as gthe Baltic states wanted a break away. -
The coup begins
Before Gorbachev is signing the deal with the rebulics giving them more freddom, an outbreak starts when the plotters take there ovie. The plotters contain some of his most closedt colleagues. Tanks go into Moscow and start to take position. Before the day the plotters ask to delare a state of emergency, when he declines it he goes under house arrest, where he cant see what is happening. Yeltsin then takes action. -
Gorbachev returns
He makes a return to Moscow from after his house arrest. The coup collapsted on the 21 of August.Yeltsin wants the soviet communust party to end on Russia. The next day Gorbachev resigns as the Soviet Communist Party secretary.The Russian flag then flies next to the Soviet Flag. -
The final days of the Soviet Union.
The Baltic states were the first to have independence, later other republics starts to break away. The soviet union then had to deal with the other leaders. On the 25 of December Gorbachev announces publicly that he is stepping down, the flag was then lowered and thaqt was the end to the USSR.
