Mary Katherine and her younger siblings were placed in the home of her brother-in-law, Gustav Susemihl, and in 1870 they were left in the care of attorney Otto Smith.[4] The 1870 United States Census records for Davenport, Iowa show Kate's younger sister, 15-year-old Wilhelmina (Wilma), living with and working as a domestic for Austrian-born David Palter and his Hungarian wife Betty.

She was later on reconized for being a prostitute and having a big nose witch led on to a resturant named big nose kate.

Kate led a gun fight because outlaw cow boys threatend to kill her.Her ex husband Holliday did not agree with the idea so he argued with kate and kates freind took holiday hostage till the fight was over.Holliday later on called a divorce and three years later he was murdered for reasons that were not known.

kate died at the age of 89 three days befor she turned befor she turned 90 on November 2, 1940.
