Carnegie built his first steel mill and named it Edgar Thomson steel works. He made this in Pennsylvania right outside of Pitsburg.

In 1901 Andrew retired and gave up the company. Before he did this, he owned up to a quarter of the American iron and steel production. He later gifted away $125 million to establish the Carnegie Corporation of America
