    Causes of the Revolutionary War

  • Ending French and Indian War 1763

    Ending the French and Indian War in North America. France Ceded all mainland North American territories, except New Orleans. Britain gained all territory east of the Mississippi River, and Spain kept territory west of the Mississippi, but exchanged east and west Florida for Cuba.
  • Sugar Act 1764

    Sugar Act, which was the first attempt to finance the defense of the colonies by the British Government. They wanted to deter smuggling. The Sugar Act established a Vice- Admiralty Court in Halifax.
  • Stamp Act 1765

    Stamp Act, They didn't want the costs of garrisoning the colonies, Parliament required all legal documents, newspapers, and pamphlets required to use watermarked, or stamped on paper which a levy was placed. There was also other acts in 1765. There was the Quartering Act, Virginian Resolution, and Stamp Act Congress. Some colonists believed that they could do anything more than grumble and buy the stamps until the Virginia House of Burgesses adopted Patrick Henry's Stamp Act Resolves.

    The War starts. The first shots of the Revolutionary War are fired at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.
