french and indian war
the war that actually fueled the fire to start the american revolution. was called the seven years war as well. caused lots of issues that gave americans the need to declare independence. -
proclomation of 1763
happened after the French and indian war. main purpose was to stop the colonist from expanding west of the Appalachian mountains. -
sugar act
put in place to help pay off war debts from the seven year war. put higher restrictions and larger punishments for smuggling sugar and molasses. -
stamp act
a tax passed on all paper materials such as wills pamphlets posters, newspapers, and obviously stamps. upset the colonists because they felt it was very unfair to be taxed on everyday products by somebody 3000 miles away without any representation. -
boston massacre
a confrontation between colonists and British soldiers infront of a customs house. the first person killed was Crispus Attucks with four others following him. -
boston tea party
the sons of liberty dressed up as natives. they went into boston ports and dumped tons of tea. amounting to nearly ten thousand dollars in damage. this was a direct revolt to british taxes. -
the battle of bunker hill
near breeds hill in MA, the british defeated the colonists. the actually sparked a bit of confidence in the colonist because they saw that even though they lost they were doing pretty good amounts of damage on the british. the colonists had to retreat because of the lack of ammunition. -
battle of lexington and concord
the battle that signaled the start of the american revolution. tensions had been rising for many years by angered and frustrated colonists. -
declaration of independence
one of if not the biggest day in american history where the colonists officially declared independence from great britian. passed and put into order by the continental congress. -
battle of saratoga
a big turning point in the american revolution. the colonists defeated the british. was a big accomplishment because they god rid of all the barracks in new jersey. -

valley forge
washington and his men spent nearly six months in the freezing cold winter but it was worth it in the end because they reclaimed philadelphia. -
the battle of kings hill
was a victory for the colonists. british lost about to 1000 soldiers. it took place near present day cherokee county. -
articles of confederation (ratified)
the articles were sent to the 13 states in 1777.all the states except for virginia and maryland signed it pretty quickly but was almost four years until all of them finally did. -
battle of guilford court house
near greensboro but a british victory. even though the british were out numbered they still came out on top but the colonists were surprised at how much damage they did. -
battle of yorktown
the final battle of the war. cornwallis was forced to surrender after being blockaded by the french navy. -
treaty of paris
the treaty between the british and the Americans that officially ended the revolutionary war. -
shays rebellion
a group of about 1,200 small farmers. they were angered because Massachusetts made new taxes to help pay off war debts. they would not afford to pay them. -
constitution signed
new hampshire signs the constitution and making it the official document of the united states of america. took almost two more years until the constitution was ratified by all 13 states because two states were scared that government would have to much power. -
first president elected, George washington
elected after the passing of the constitution. his vice president was john adams. -
compromise of 1790
a deal made between alexander hamilton and thomas jefferson. it said that jefferson agreed to support alexanders hamiltons plan for government. he also was in agreement to move the capital to D.C.
