  • Alice Paul is Born

    She is born in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey
  • Alice Graduates

    Alice Graduates first in her class at a Hicksite school, entering coeducational Swarthmore College, which was founded by her grandfather, Judge William Parry
  • Bachelors Degree

    Alice receives her Bachelor's Degree in Biology as a commencement speaker and member of the student government.
  • Masters Degree

    Paul earns her Master's Degree in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. After her work in the settlement movement of New York, Alice travels to England to study social work at the Woodbroke Settlement. She meets the Pankhurst women and becomes an active suffragist. She is arrested frequently, rebelling in jail by going on hunger strikes, for which she is force-fed.
  • Returning to America

    Alice returns to America with a determination to boost the local suffrage movement. She joins the National American Women's Suffrage Association (NAWSA)
  • Alice Obtains her Ph.D

    Alice obtains her Ph.D in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Then travels to Washington D.C with two friends to organize suffrage events.
  • Suffragist Parade

    Alice arranges a suffragist parade along Pennsylvania Avenue and makes national news, Men physically hurt the marches and police ignore the violence.
  • Severs Ties with NAWSA

    Paul severs ties with NAWSA and forms the Congressional Union to promote women's enfranchisement federally. Disagreeing with their alliance with President Wilson.
  • National Women's Party

    Alice forms the National Women's Party(NWP) and organizes silent protests outside of the whitehouse
  • Occoquan Workhouse

    Alice along with fellow suffragists, is arrested and sent to Occoquan Workhouse. Where she is force-fed and met with brutality after staging a hunger strike. Workers attempt to place her in an insane asylum, the public discovers the torture and releases Paul.
  • Bachelor Degree Number 2

    Alice receives her Bachelors Degree in Law from the Washington College of Law.
  • Alice presents written Amendment

    Alice presents a self written amendment that she calls the Lucretia Mott Amendment, officially named the Equal Rights Amendment.
  • Master's Degree

    Paul gets her Master's Degree in Law from American University
  • Doctor of Civil Law

    Alice becomes a Doctor of Civil Law, graduating from American University.

    The Equal Rights Amendment was revised and renamed the "Alice Paul Amendment."
