    During his time at MIT Kotok and his classmate name, McCarthy began to develop McCarthy's IBM 704 chess-playing program. Kotok described their work in the MIT Artificial Intelligence Project Memo 41 and in his bachelor thesis, by the time they graduated. the chess program was comparable to an amateur with about 100 game experience on an IBM 7090.
