He gained the position of Director and Professor of Sydney’s Unit for History and Philosophy of Science. He remained in this position at University of Sydney until his retirement. -
Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities
For his importance in the field of the philosophy of science he was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. -
Retirement
He retired from his position at the University of Sydney in 1999. -
Post retirement
After retirement he became a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Philosophy at Flinders University until 2010 and a Visiting Fellow in the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2004. -
Centenary Medal
The Australian government awarded him the Centenary Medal for his ‘Services to the Humanities in the area of History and Philosophy of Science’. -
