Born in 1991 with significant disabilities in all four limbs, Ahmed Kelly was left at a Baghdad orphanage where he spent the majority of the first seven years of his life.

Moira Kelly adopted Emmanual and Amhed and took them to Victoria, Australia for medical treatment. Kelly's treatment involved having parts of his legs removed that were deficient, and then being fitted with prosthesis.
