  • The First King of Afghanistan

    The First King of Afghanistan dies, leaving his throne for his children.
  • The 3 Wars

    Due to port Russia wanted built on the Indian ocean that would go straight through Afghanistan, 3 wars were fought between the British and the Afghans. The 3 wars resulted in Afghanistan's loss over kurram, Khyber, Michni, Pishin and Sibit.
  • The First War (1839-1842)

    This war was fought between the British and the Afghans over the port the Russians wanted built.
  • The second War (1878-1880)

    The Second War was the second major war fought over the issue brought up by the Russians.
  • The Durand Line

    In exchange for resources from the British, the present day border between Pakistan and Afghanistan was formed.
  • The Third War (1919)

    The 3rd war was not fought for long, so it is considered minor by many historians.
  • Afghanistan's Independence

    After the three wars, Amanulla declared Afghanistan's independence from the British.
  • The Democratic State

    Mohammed Zahir initiated the Democratic State in Afghanistan in 1964, creating free elections and a parliament. He is often seen as freeing the Afghans.
  • The Last King

    Mohammed Zahir was the last King of Afghanistan. His reign lasted for 40 years during which he instituted the democratic state.
  • End of the Democratic Society

    As Mohammed Zahir's first cousin came to power, he abolished the Democratic Constitute and created the Republic of Afghanistan.
  • The Communists and the Cold War

    During the Cold war, Presidant Khan was assassinated and the communists came to power. Many Muslim traditions including mosques became off limits and a religious war broke out.
  • The Soviet Invasion

    As the Soviet Union invaded to keep the communist goverment alive, the following war forced 6 million refugees into Pakistan and Iran and over 1 and a half million people died.
  • Taliban

    In 1992, a civil war broke out and a group named Taliban was created to bring order to Afghanistan.
  • National Reputation

    By 2000, Taliban had control over 90 percent of Afghanistan and had earned the reputation amongst those weary of warfare.
  • United States gets Involved

    As a terrorist attack was mounted on the world trade centre, the United States tried to eliminate all Al-Qaeda forces. They had gained control over Kabul and other cities by November.
  • Republic Country

    In 2004, a new constitution was formed which formed a republic country.
