    Before Jesus leaves his disciples, he promises the Holy Spirit will come and that they will preach the gospel to the ends of the earth. Jesus is taken to heaven in the disciples' presence.

    A violent wind came from heaven and tongues of fire rested on each of them. The believers were filled with the Holy Spirit.

    The Stoning of Stephen
    After Stephen's speech to the Sanhedrin, he was stoned for blasphemy. Saul approved of Stephen's death. Stephen became the first martyr.

    Philip and the Ethiopian
    Philip heard an Ethiopian eunuch reading from the book of Isaiah. Philip explained what he was reading and told him about Jesus. The Ethiopian believed and was baptized.

    Saul's Conversion

    Saul's Conversion
    Saul persecuted the believers. On the road to Damascus, Jesus appeared before Saul in a flash of light. After his encounter with Jesus, Saul was blind. Jesus told him to find a disciple named Ananias. Ananias restored his vision. Paul received the Holy Spirit and was baptized.

    Peter's Vision
    Peter saw a large sheet with unclean animals. Jesus told Peter to eat but Peter denied saying he would not eat anything that was impure. Jesus showed Peter the vision three times. Shortly thereafter, Peter received an invitation by Cornelius, a gentile. Peter told them the story of Jesus and baptized him and his entire household.

    Paul and Silas in Prison

    Paul and Silas in Prison
    Paul and Silas were imprisoned. Despite their circumstance, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns to God. An earthquake occurred and all the prisoners were free. The jailor, thinking the prisoners, escaped, drew his sword to commit suicide. Paul called out to him to stop. None of the prisoners had escaped the jail. The jailer brought Paul and Silas to his house. He and his entire household believed and were baptized.

    Unknown God

    Unknown God
    While Paul was in Athens, he was discouraged to find that the city was full of idols. Paul began preaching about Jesus. Philosophers heard him and invited him to speak at their meeting. Paul acknowledged that they were religious. He pointed out that they had an altar that was dedicated to an unknown God. Paul proclaimed that he knew who this unknown God was and told them the full story of Jesus.

    Paul is Shipwrecked

    Paul is Shipwrecked
    As a prisoner, Paul sailed for Rome. The ship was caught in a storm. The storm raged for fourteen days. For the men to stay alive, Paul told the centurion that everyone must stay on the ship. The ship ran aground. The soldiers planned to kill Paul and the other prisoners but the centurion wished to save Paul's life. Everyone on board survived the shipwreck.
