    Zarrof gives Rainsford until nightfall to run, during which he makes several misleading tracks, and finally hides in a tree. Zarrof quickly tracks him to the tree and sees him, but lets him live so that he may have more sport tommorow.
  • Day Two of the Hunt

    Realizing that just hiding will only get him killed, Rainsford prepares a spike pit to kill Zarof, but only suceeds in killing his best hunting dog.
  • The Last Day

    It was the third day, and Zarof had brought Ivan and his entire pack of hunting dogs to find Rainsford. Seeing as how he has no chance of hiding, Rainsfors prepares a trap composed of his knife attached to a bent tree limb and runs for it. The trap ends up killing Ivan, but Zaraf is unphased and resumes the hunt. Knowing he will be unable to escape, Rainsford jumps into the sea.

    Thinking that Rainsford is dead, Zarof Returns to his mansion, where he retires to his room to sleep; However, he is taken by suprise when he sees Rainsford . He had simply swam directly to the mansion and had been waitingfor Zarof to return. The story ends with Rainsford saying "It was the best bed he had slept on", infering he had killed Rainsford.
