Korea split into South and North Korea. The Soviet union supported the North while the U.S supported the South. When North Korea and South Korea battled South Korea won when north surrendered. South Korea was controlled by dictators an military rulers and north was controlled by one dictator. -

Communist Cuba
Castro put the majoirty of the land under governmeny control and restricted freedom. Critics were sent to prison and silenced. Most of the critics flew to Florida. The U.S wanted to bring down the communist regime and tempted to invade and Cuba, but failed. -
Berlin Wall
West Berlin built a wall to stop flights and seal off Eastern Berlin. It prevented workers who didn't like communism from leaving. Eastern Berlin was democractic and had more freedom than western Berlin. The people in western Berlin wanted that freedom so they tried leaving western Berlin and going to east. -
Missile Crisis
The Soviet Union sent nuclear missiles to Cuba. Kennedy took action and had a naval blockade to prevent the Soviets shipments and ordered them to remove their nuclear missiles. The missiles were removed by Khrushchev. -
Nuclear Arms Race
The U.S and Soviet had talked about limiting nuclear weapons and in 1972 and 1979 signed agreements to limit their nuclear weapon supply. -
Vietnam Conflict
Vietnam was split. North was ruled by Ho's communists and South by the U.S. Minh wanted to unite Vietnam under communist rule. During the war between North and South Vietnam help and aide was sent to South, but none to North. The South eventually won the war when the U.S wanted to get out of it and the South gained control of the North -

The U.S wanted to restrain the Soviet Union by diplomatic agreements. It ended in 1979 when the Soviet union invaded Afghanistan -
Soviets in Afghanistan
The Soviet Union wanted to modernize Afghanistan, but the mujahedin believed their traditions would be threatened. A war started. The U.S aided the mujahedin in the war. The new leader of the Soviet Union Gorbachev decided to pull out the Soviet troops, sign control treaties for the U.S. Everything was censored at other countries
