    38th Parallel
    Korea was divided along the 38th Parallel of latitude; Soviets occupied the north, the US occupied the south. North Korea pushes downward and invades South Korea. North Korea almost conquers them, but South Koerea pushes back upwards. The game continues until a stalemate is reached and they both reach an agreement to end the fighting. They remained divided close to the 38th Parallel. A formal peace treaty was never signed.

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
    The United States, Canada, and ten other countries in the North Atlantic formed an alliance. They pledged to help out countries included within the alliance if any one of them were attacked.

    Nuclear Arms RaceThe United States and the Soviet Union began to rapidly make nuclear weapons, each trying to outdo and over-produce the other. Each country had thousands of nuclear weapons each.

    Communism was spreading through China, and Mao Zedong ledthe Communist party. Mao, with the support of Chinese peasants, began to reshape China's society with his "Great Leap Forward" plan, which, ultimately, failed. Mao then began to purge Chinese society of the boureois populace during the Cultural Revolution, hoping that would help fuel the revolution.

    Ho Chi Mihn led guerrilla forces defeated French invaders . Vietman was split into two areas; the North and South. Communism was spreading, so the United States entered the Vietnam War in an attempt to stop it. The US was attacked unexpectedly on the Vietnamese New Year (Tet). America withdrew from the war. Two years later, North Vietnam conquered the South Vietnamese.

    The Soviet Union tried to maintain contol of the European countries that were fighting for independence, but were having trouble controlling them. Its economy was struggling as well, as was its military. Soviet leaders tried to reform the government, but it eventually crumbled by the end of 1991.

    Fidel Castro built up an army to overrun the corrupt dictator, and then he came into power, seeking support from the Soviet Union after the US refused to help them anymore.

    Countries all across Eastern Europe demanded freedom and began revolting. Many countries not only reformed their political views, but they changed their economic statuses as well. Communism fell, and was nearly erased from all countries.

    Folks of East Berlin were unhappy with communism and therefore tried to escape to West Berlin, where there was democracy. So East Berlin build a huge concrete wall to stop the fleeing people.

    The Soviet Union shipped nuclear missiles to Cuba to help them out. The US installed a naval blockade and President Kennedy demanded that the missiles be removed. The Soviets backed out after realizing the US would fare better should a nuclear war occur.

    There was a small period of time when the Soviets and the Americans were relaxed. The Americans restrained the Soviets via diplomatic reasoning rather than military means.

    The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in order to implement more modern technology and government. The had to fight the Mujahedin, which are Muslim religious warriors. The Soviets struggled, and the US smuggled weapons to the Mujahedin, which aided them in defeating the Soviets. After suffering many casualties, the Soviets backed out. The US left Afghanistan to their own resources to rebuild themselves.
