    The arms race began right after ww2, At first the U.S. was the only nuclear power, In 1949 the soviets had developed nuclear arms. By 1953 both sides had developed the hydrogen bomb. There were several arms control agreements made to prevent a global nuclear attack. Detente was a relaxation of tensions in the 1970s. The stratgey was to limmit the soviet union through a series of agreements.

North Korea was lead by dictator kim il sung, also a communist ally of the societ union. In the south the U.S. supported the dictioral non communist syngman rhee. The conflict was that both dictators wanted to rule the whole country. In effect north korea attacked south. After years of argument both sides signed an armistice.

    Fidel castro organized an armed rebellion against the corrupt dictator who was ruling cub. His guerrilla army came up with a victory and set about transforming the country. He capitalized most businesses and put land under government control. He also limited cubans' political freedom. The soviets tryed shipping nuclear arms to cuba but the U.S. made a naval blockade, The whole world was indanger of a nuclear attack.

    In result of conflict between both sides they arranged and plotted out attacks amung eachother.U.S presedent johnston reported to congress, and they passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, this authouized the president to take all necessary measures to prevent further agressions between both sides.
