The 1994 Education Act had established three stages to edcuation: Primary, Secondary and Further Education
--Free and Compulsary Education to 15
--Free education to 18 ( for all who want it)
LEAs had the intenetions to use the "tri-partite" system ( notion that there were 3 types of mind academic, technical and practical) outlined in the Norword Report -
THE CR on education to 15-19 year-olds recommended
--raising the school leaving age to 16
--intro to comprehensive schooling to all
--new exam below level to cater for a wider range of students
--a range of 6th form course other than 'A' level
--Expansion of FE and a coherent national system of vocational education and training -
In mid 50's and 60's the chidlren of secodnary moders schoools had left without any formal qualifications as examinatio where rare. The CSE graded from 1 to 5 provided (1 being equilvalent to O-level grade C) a sutable target for a wider ability range.

The Newsom Report had provided statistical data showing the variation in pupils' reading test scores by school and region, It was found that schools were failing many pupils aged 13 -16 of average and below average ability.
-- The report found many secondary Modern schools to be seriously deficient with proportionally more funding be channelled into the grammar schools. -
A review of Children and their Primary schools
Recommendations as a result of the report:
-- widly known for its praise towards "child centre approaches"
--Physical pain should not be inflicted on school children
--Increase for male teachers
-- Primary schools should have a programme for contact betwen schools and home -
Post war economic boom was over, unemployement was rising as manufacturing industries declined. It would seem that raising the school age would present less dramatic youth unemployment figures.

The Manpower Service Commisions sets-up YTS.
Youth training schemes were set-up as an attempt to tackle the growing problem of youth unemployment -
Discrimination on the grounds of gender (1975) or race (1976) became illegal for the first time.

I started at Yarnfield Primary School (YPS), In 2007 several local schools including YPS joined forces to form the Acock’s Green extended school cluster aiming to engage community and improve opportunities and provision within the area.
