It was a financial crisis due to over lending on mortgages to people who should not have qualified. Because of the excitement of easy loans demand spiked. As more people failed to pay banks failed beginning a downward spiral to the rest of the world. America had not economically suffered this badly since the great depression.

From 2019 to current day there have been 767,364,883 cases and 6,938,353 deaths.
