    Watergate
    President Nixon hired fivr men to break into the Democratic National Commitee headquarters. Nixon's administration to try and cover up his involvment with the crime. Nixon then later resigned becaue of it in 1974.
  • Saigon Falls

    Saigon Falls
    Saigon, the capitol of South Vietnam, was captured by the People's Ary of Vietnam. This event is what ended the Vietnam war. US helped bring 1500 refugees to safety.
  • Egypt-Isreal Peace Treaty

    Egypt-Isreal Peace Treaty
    This treaty had mutual recgonition of both countries, complete withdrawl of Isreal's armed forces and civilians from the Sinai Peninsula. Free passage of Isreal ships through the Suez Canal. This made Egypt the first Arab state to officially recognize Israel.
  • John Lennon's Death

    John Lennon's Death
    He was shot outside an appartment building in Manhattan, New York by Mark David Chapman. He was famous for being a founder of The Beatles and for being a political activist and pacifist.

    66 American citizens were held hostage for 444 days because of the Iranian Revolution. After failed rescue attempts they were finally released upon the signing of the Algiers Accords in Algeria.

    Aquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a virus that is deadly if gone untreated. Can be stabalized by vaccinations. About 36.1 million poeple in the world have AIDS.

    The Challenger Space Shuttle broke apart 73 seconds into its flight killing 7 crew members. Disintegration of the entire vehicle began after an O-ring seal in its right solid rocket booster (SRB) failed at liftoff.

    Students protested for economic reform and to be liberated. The People's Liberation Army used live fire to clear people out of the square. Several hundreds and thousands of poeple were killed.

    The transportation of East and West Germany was now easier. Poeple are now able to go from East to West Germany freely. The wall was supposed to be a border between the two countries, and, it was another reason for Germans to protest and cause caos.

    Also known as the Gulf War. The US against Iraq because of Iraq invading Kuwait. President Bush sent US troops into Saudi Arabia, and asked other countries to join in and help.

    "The Great Flood of 1993" occured along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. It was the most costly and devastating event to happen in the US $15 billion in damages.

    Oklahoma City Bombing
    The most destructive act of terrorism attack until 9/11. Was done by Timothy McVeigh. The bomb took 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6, and injured more than 680 people. The bomb destroyed 324 buildings within a sixteen-block radius, burned 86 cars, Caused at least $652 million worth of damage.
  • Impeachment of President Clinton

    He was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice and was aquitted by the Senate.This was only the 2nd impeachment of a president in American History, the 1st was Andrew Johnson.
  • Twin Towers Go Down

    It was a series of 4 suicide attacks. The hijackers intentionally piloted two of those planes, into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The hijackers also intentionally crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and intended to pilot the fourth hijacked jet, into a target in Washington, D.C. but crashed into a field.
  • Invasion of Iraq

    Invasion of Iraq
    United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland invaded Iraq and tired to capture Saddam Hussein. This started the conflict known as the Iraq War or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    This war concluded in the capture of the Iraq capital Baghdad by the US.
