    The First Battle of the Marne was conducted between 5-12 September 1914. Named for the Marne River wherein the battle occured. This Battle was in particular to German forces because it was an invasion of the neighboring country France.

    This battle was result of the British and German forces for a push on Menin. The Belgian city of Ypres had been the scene of numerous battles since the sixteenth century. This battle ended at the North Sea coast after each army attempted to outflank the other by moving north and west.
