    The Oklahoma City bombing occurred when a truck packed with explosives was detonated on April 19, 1995, outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, leaving 168 people dead and hundreds more injured. The blast was set off by anti-government militant Timothy McVeigh, who in 2001 was executed for his crimes. His co-conspirator Terry Nichols was sentenced to life in prison.

    On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

Just after explosions began to rock Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, U.S. President George W.     A 69-year-old man upset over a land dispute has admitted starting the fire in Seoul that destroyed a 14th-century gate considered one of South Korea's most treasured landmarks, police said Tuesday.
    The suspect in the blaze at Namdaemun gate was arrested late Monday on Ganghwa Island, west of Seoul, and was questioned overnight at police headquarters in the capital.

    The 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence was adopted on 17 February 2008 by the Assembly of Kosovo. In a meeting attended by 109 of the total 120 members, the assembly unanimously declared Kosovo to be independent from Serbia, while all 11 representatives of the Serb minority boycotted the proceedings.
  • Former Macedonian Interior Minister Ljube Boškoski is acquitted of all charges by a UN Tribunal accusing him of war crimes

    With respect to Ljube Boškoski, Trial Chamber II held that the position of Minister of Interior of FYROM allowed him control over the conduct of the police and other employees of the Ministry. He also had knowledge of the serious allegations that crimes were being committed in Ljuboten and other locations. The Chamber found that reports had been drawn on the incidents and that they had been submitted to the competent authorities with the purpose of commencing judicial investigations.
