    Democritus

    Democritus
Democritus was born in the city of Abdera in Thrace, an Ionian colony of Teos, although some called him a Milesian. He was born in the 80th Olympiad (460–457 BC) according to Apollodorus, and although Thrasyllus placed his birth in 470 BC, the later date is probably more likely. He has traveled many places, and discovered early model atomic hypothesis.Democritus died at the age of 90, which would put his death around 370 BC, but other writers have him living to 104, or even 109.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
John Dalton FRS (6 September 1766 – 27 July 1844) was an English chemist, meteorologist and physicist. He is best known for his pioneering work in the development of modern atomic theory, and his research into colour blindness.
  • J.J Thompson

    J.J Thompson
Sir Joseph John "J. J." Thomson, OM, FRS (18 December 1856 – 30 August 1940) was a British physicist and Nobel laureate. He is credited for the discovery of the electron and of isotopes, and the invention of the mass spectrometer. Thomson was awarded the 1906 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the electron and for his work on the conduction of electricity in gases.
  • Marie and Pierre Curie

    Marie and Pierre Curie
Pierre and Marie Curie are best known for their pioneering work in the study of radioactivity, which led to their discovery in 1898 of the elements radium and polonium. Marie Curie, born Maria Sklodowska in Warsaw, Poland, on Nov. 7, 1867, d. July 3, 1934. Sorbonne.Pierre Curie, b. May 15, 1859, d. Apr. 19, 1906.
  • Ernest Rutherford

    Ernest Rutherford
Ernest Rutherford, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson OM, FRS (30 August 1871 – 19 October 1937) was a New Zealand-born British chemist and physicist who became known as the father of nuclear physics. He won Nobel Prize in chem in1908.In 1911, he postulated that atoms have their positive charge concentrated in a very small nucleus, and thereby pioneered the Rutherford model. He is widely credited with first "splitting the atom" in 1917.Rutherford died in 1937.
  • Neils Bohr

    Neils Bohr
Niels Henrik David Bohr (Danish pronunciation: [nels ˈboɐ̯ˀ]; 7 October 1885 – 18 November 1962) was a Danish physicist who made fundamental contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum mechanics, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. Bohr mentored and collaborated with many of the top physicists of the century at his institute in Copenhagen. He was part of a team of physicists working on the Manhattan Project. Bohr married Margrethe Nørlund in 1912.
  • James Chadwick

    James Chadwick
Sir James Chadwick CH FRS (20 October 1891 – 24 July 1974) was an English Nobel laureate in physics awarded for his discovery of the neutron.
