    In 1907 , the Vancouver Riot brought about demands from British Columbia for the government to put measures in place to stop the immigration of Asian people.
  • Immigration Act Of 1910

    This act gave the Cabinet the authority to "exclude immigrants belonging to any race unsuited to the climate or requirements
    of canada".
    The Canadian gorvernment was determined to discourage the entry of certain categories of people. It passed an Order in Council in 1910 that immigrants of Asian origin were to have 200 dollars in cash with them when they landed in Canada.
  • The Amendment to the Immigration Act 1919

    The amendment to the immigration act in 1919 allowed the government to bar entry to specified groups of immigrants.
  • Chinese Immigration Act 1923

    It was replaced with a new Chinese Immigration Act whose provisions were so broad that Chinese Immigrants were virtually barred.
    The new law went into effect on July 1 , 1923.
