    Herbert Hoover Takes Office
    Herbert Hoover takes office after winning the election. Little did he know he was on the road to a very bump presidency and was blamed for the Great Depression of the 30's.
  • The Dust Bowl

    The Dust Bowl
    The Dust Bowl was a period of very extended drought in the Great Plains of the U.S where mass amounts of dust traveled throuhout, causing death and damage from the storm, let alone not permitting crop growth. Soon people left the Dust Bowl to live elsewhere in peace. It lasted from1930 to 1936 and in some areas up to 1940.
  • RFC

    RFC
    The agency which started during Herbert Hoover's presidecny had given loans to numerous state and local governments for things such as banking or housing. Almost all loans were repaid and RFC carried on into the New Deal.
  • The Bonus Army

    The Bonus Army
    The Bonus Army was a group of WW1 veterans that wanted their war bonus from the government now rather than in the 40's because of hard economic times. Fights soon started to break out in front of the capitol as well as riots and gun shots.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt , a democrat, was elected as president after Hoover's failure as president. He was voted because he had promised to fix the Great Depression.

    Adolf Hitler was elected by the people as Chancellor of Germany. This began his domination as he took over the country of Germany and soon would attack other countries triggering WW2.

    The New Deal was passed during FDR's first term. It focused on the three R's, which are recovery, reform, and relief, which was designed to get the U.S out of the Great Depression. It had the government give out money and create many programs to create jobs.

    The Indian Reorginization Act gave special rights to Native Americans like keeping their own tribal government in their reservations. It also let Indians manage their own land with out government interference.

    Father Coughlin sympthisized with Hitler and his hatred of the Jews. Coughlin attacked their banking as the cause of the Depression and attacked FDR as well.

    Social Secutiy was signed into law permitting people to get money in for their retirement by the person getting an average of the money they made over their lifetime and allows children to get their parent's social security if they were to die.

    The Neutrality Acts were a series of acts passed over the span of 4 years (1935-39) which tried to keep the U.S as "neutral". This included saying that citizens traveled on warships at their own risk or outlawing trading of weaponry to certain countries.

    The GM Sit Down Strike turned the United Automobile Workers into a labor union. The strike consisted of workers just "sitting" down on the job all day and even sleeping on auto equipment. This soon led to major unions.

    The Rape of Nanjing was a mass muder across China by Japan and it s culture spanning over 6 weeks. Hundreds of thousands were killed and tens of thousands of women were raped.

    The Grapes of Wrath is a novel set during the Great Depression and focuses on a family of poor farmers. The drought, the economy, and the shift away from agriculture all play a role in the lives of the poor farmers.
