By heating mercury and collecting the gas produced (oxygen) a scientist discovered the first gas or oxygen as they called it. -

John Dalton theorizes that all matter is made of tiny particles. He calls these particles atoms after what an ancient greek philospher called them. -
Synthesis of Urea
By combining chemicals a scientist accidentally synthesizes Urea. This was a big deal because it was the first time an organic chemical was created using inorganic chemical which proved that its all made of the same stuff. -
Chemical structure is better understood
Scientists learn that sometimes chemical bonds arange diffrently depending on the elements and bonds. Did not record the date so i made a guess. -
Atoms Have signatures of light
When different elements were exposed to fire, a different light pattern was omitted. Using a type of scope scientists are able to distinguish different elements from each other using just the light they produce when burned. This allowed for new elements to be discovered using only light and allowed study of elements in space. -
Periodic Table Created
Dimitri Mendeleev arranges the known elements by atomic number and finds that they arrange themselves in a way that groups them by their properties. He predicts new elements using his table which are later discovered. His table is still used today in chemistry. -
Electricity is used on Chemicals.
With electricity being so easily accessible scientists began using it in experiments. When one scientist applied electricity to potash he found that it formed potassium. The idea of adding electricity to a chemical or a reaction was then used by many scientists to discover new things. Also did not have a date for this one so guessed the date -
Radioactivity is discovered
It is learned that uranium releases particles constantly and that there are other elements that are forms of uranium that have lost enough protons to become a new element. -
Plastics are created
By exploiting the stringiness and strength of cellulose in plants plastics are created. Plastics become used to in almost everything after this. -
Fullerenes discovered
Scientists discover carbon atoms that have bonded in a very strong way. They are the strongest possible molecule that can be formed.
