  • Battle at Stalingrad

    Battle at Stalingrad
    Germany attacked Russia in June of 1941. Germany's surrender in January, 1943 ended in a long, brutal march back to Germany. Only 5,000 German troops survived the retreat.

  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    The most important battle between Japan and the U.S. The Americans sank 4 of Japan's aircraft carriers, and 250 planes, while the U.S lost only 1 pilot. This was a turning point in the war in the Pacific; U.S. went on the offensive.

  • Teheran Conference

    Teheran Conference
    FDR, Churchill, and Stalin had thir first face to face meeting. They planned to invade France and march toward Germany; one step towards Germany's defeat. This attack would be known as Operation Overlord.

  • D-Day

    The Allies hit the Germans in full force. The Allies stormed 4 different beaches; most brutle battle took place at Omaha. At the end of the day, the Allies had a toehold in France.

    Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg attempted to assassinate Hitler by planting a bomb in Hitler's layer. Many were wounded, but Hitler came out of it alive.

    AKA, Hitler's counterattack. Germany almost won this battle by creating a bulge in the Ameircan lines, but the Allied bombers steadily atacked just in time to push the Germans out of France.

    This was one of the fiercest battles of the island hopping campaign. 23,000 Marines died, but they finally did take the island. This battle for Iwo Jima started in February and lasted til March.

    Victory in Europe Day! Germany FINALLY surrended in a French schoolhouse that has acted as Germany's headquarters.

    He and a few of his closest associates commited suicide once the Americans, British, and Russians had reached Berlin.

  • Bomb Was Dropped on Hiroshima

    Bomb Was Dropped on Hiroshima
    Truman finally decided to drop an atomic bomb over Nagasaki. Within two minutes of the explosion, 60,000 civilians died. Over the next three days, Japan debated whether or not to surrender. Shortly after, Japan became the victim to yet another atomic bomb over Nagasaki. This killed nearly 35,000 civilians.
